Video game sales down $2 billion

Last year was overall disappointing for game retailers.

According to figures announced Thursday by The NPD Group, overall sales for the industry came in between $16.3 and $16.6 billion for 2011. That’s down from $18.6 billion a year ago.

Retail stores were down 8% in 2011

On a positive note, Sales in Xbox 360 Consoles were up %9!

Looks like the poor economy is affecting the world of gamers…

  1. Ouch, I didn’t know this. Could it have anything to do with the rise of download based games? They are often cheaper and might affect profits. I hope things pick up although the quality of games this year might well struggle compared to that of last year. Maybe the launch of new consoles will help.

  2. I think Rob is right with the downloadable games/content……and the least they could do is decrease the pirce of new games back to what it was before 50$

  3. When was it ever that low?
